One of the biggest trends in recent years is the major rise of clean makeup.

If you’re wondering what it is and why everyone’s talking about it, then we have all the answers.

We’ve dug out the most relevant information to answer your questions about clean makeup.

Should you switch to clean makeup?

It’s totally possible to look great without any harmful ingredients that might cause you harm in the long run — or even worse: make you sick. Switching over to clean makeup is worth it and can really improve your look.

Wearing makeup is a personal choice and you should do whatever makes you feel good.

However, it is important to be mindful of what you are applying to your skin since many products contain chemicals that can be harmful in large doses.

Toxins in cosmetics are not regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so there is no way of knowing how much of any ingredient is going onto your face.

In addition, certain ingredients have been banned in other countries but are still legal in the US. For example, methylisothiazolinone (MI) was banned in Canada and the EU because it can cause contact dermatitis.

And yet, it is still used in some mascara products sold in the US. The best way to avoid exposure to toxins is to use non-toxic makeup and beauty products.

Natural alternatives will be labeled as organic or natural, while nontoxic means they have been formulated without certain chemicals that may cause harm when used over time.

How much will it cost to switch to clean makeup?

If you want to do a full switch-over and ditch your non-clean beauty products entirely, it can cost anywhere from $0 – $1,300 or more. On the other hand, if you’re just looking for some new clean beauty additions to supplement your existing favorites, it can cost between just $5 -$70.

Temptalia estimates that the average American spends about $7.50 per day (or almost $300 per month) on makeup products. That’s a lot of money!

Whether or not you can shift to clean beauty products depends on how much of your current budget goes toward makeup, but if you find yourself spending more than $300 per month, then switching to clean beauty might help you save some money.

I’ve been saving money by making the shift myself — I used to spend about $200 per month on makeup in total, and now I’m down to about $80. So it’s definitely possible!

What are the pros of switching to clean makeup?

Using clean makeup isn’t just about avoiding chemicals that clog your pores and make you break out (one of my biggest concerns).

It’s about choosing products that are more natural overall, replacing synthetic ingredients with more luxurious, skin-friendly ones.

Natural oils can give you healthier hair, shinier lips, and more even-toned skin!

Here are 10 pros of switching to using clean makeup:

1. Clean makeup is healthy for your skin.

2. Clean makeup does not contain any harmful chemicals.

3. Clean makeup does not cause skin irritation.

4. Clean makeup is easy on your wallet.

5. Clean makeup is safe for your health and body.

6. Clean makeup can be used even by people with sensitive skin.

7. Clean makeup is good for people who wear contact lenses or have sensitive eyesight.

8. Clean makeup helps you avoid allergic reactions to different cosmetics and beauty products.

9. Clean makeup makes you look younger and more beautiful than before.

10. Clean makeup is a smarter choice when it comes to your health and safety.

What are the cons of switching to clean makeup?

Here are some cons of switching to using clean makeup:

1. You have to do your research to find the right products for your skin type and needs.

2. Lack of Variety

3. You have to know what ingredients you should avoid.

4. You’ll need to buy more products initially.

5. It takes time for your body to detox.

How to switch to clean makeup safely

Going “green” often means giving up the products you love, but there are ways to change your beauty routine without sacrificing your favorite products.

Here are six tips for making a safer switch:

Step 1: Replace your foundation

Foundation is one of the hardest cosmetics to replace because it’s so personal.

Start by finding a mineral-based foundation that has no added nanoparticles or other chemicals.

If you can’t find a good mineral foundation, look for a cream foundation made with natural oils.

Step 2: Choose clean mascara

When it comes to mascara, the most toxic ingredient is usually something called “parabens,” which is actually a group of chemicals used as preservatives in cosmetics and food products.

Parabens can disrupt hormones and have been linked to breast cancer, however, the research is still inconclusive so until further studies are done, parabens are still being used in many cosmetic products.

The best way to avoid parabens in your mascara is to look for natural ingredients like beeswax, aloe vera or soybean oil, or look for companies that specifically state they do not use parabens in their product like Kiss My Face Mascara.

Step 3: Switch your shampoo & conditioner.

Shampoos and conditioners often contain some of the nastiest ingredients

Step 4: Conquer one product category at a time

Once you’ve purged one category of products, focus on the next category until you’ve cleaned up your entire makeup bag.

Step 5: Go slowly

You should go slowly when switching over to organic cosmetics so that your skin can adjust to the change in ingredients and give itself time to heal if you experience any kind of reaction.

You can also do a patch test first by applying a small amount of an organic product on a sensitive part of your body such as your inner wrist before applying it all over.

Step 6: Set up your “switch out” kit

Gather products you’ll need to replace your old ones with new, clean alternatives.

You should have some makeup remover, a good brush, and some moisturizer or foundation (if you’re looking for replacement options).

Final Thoughts

In the end, the choice to switch to clean makeup is up to each individual woman.

There’s no magic potion that will dissolve all your doubts about clean makeup once and for all.

But the more information you have, the easier it should be to make an informed decision about what products are right for you.
