  • 1 ripe avocado
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • ¼ cup shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons beeswax
  • 2 tablespoons zinc oxide
  • 2 drops of vitamin E oil (optional)


  • Begin by mashing the avocado in a small mixing bowl until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax. Heat the mixture in a double boiler or on low heat in the microwave until melted.
  • Once melted, add the avocado puree to the mixture and stir until well combined.
  • Remove the mixture from heat and add the zinc oxide and vitamin E oil, if using. Stir until fully incorporated.
  • Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes before pouring it into a glass jar or container.
  • Allow the sunscreen to cool completely for at least 2 hours before using.


  • If you prefer a thicker sunscreen, add more beeswax to the mixture.
  • If you prefer a thinner sunscreen, add more coconut oil to the mixture.
  • The color of the sunscreen may vary depending on the color of the avocado.

How to Use

  1. Apply a small amount of sunscreen to the face and body 15-30 minutes before sun exposure.
  2. Reapply every 2 hours or after swimming or sweating.
  3. Do not use on children under 6 months of age.
