Clean beauty brands are a booming industry. Everyone wants to know what exactly clean beauty brands are, and if they work better or worse than traditional beauty products.

You’re here because you want to know the same thing!

What are clean beauty brands?

Clean beauty brands are brands that sell products that are free from harmful chemicals, preservatives, and other ingredients. Clean beauty brands avoid synthetic fragrances, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and other harsh ingredients.

With the explosion of interest in natural and organic products, many companies are jumping onto the bandwagon by adding one or two natural ingredients to their existing formulas.

This is a step in the right direction, but it’s certainly not clean beauty.

Truly clean beauty respects your health and contains no toxic chemicals or synthetic ingredients.

It doesn’t contain petrochemicals, parabens, synthetic fragrances, phthalates, triclosan, sulfates, PEGs, MEA/DEA, or DEA/MEA.

Clean beauty brands use naturally-derived ingredients whenever possible and avoid ingredients that can harm your health and the environment.

They don’t test on animals. They minimize their use of plastic wherever possible by using recycled materials or biodegradable materials instead.

Why are they different than traditional beauty brands?

Clean beauty products are free of harmful chemicals, such as phthalates and parabens. Many conventional beauty brands contain these harmful chemicals in their products, which can cause health problems.

Clean beauty companies are going “back to basics” and using ingredients that are safe and pure.

Clean beauty products may cost more than conventional products, but they’re worth the investment because they won’t harm your health in the long run.

How to know if a brand is clean or not

When I first got into the beauty industry, I had no idea what clean beauty was or how to make sure what I was putting on my skin wasn’t going to cause me harm.

As I started learning the ropes and educating myself on ingredients, one of the most important things that stuck with me was knowing whether a brand is clean or not.

Trying to find out if a brand is clean can be confusing because you have to research ingredients and make sure you’re getting the whole story.

It’s a process that usually takes some time, but it’s also worth it in the end! Here are some tips on how to know if a brand is clean beauty or not:

Does their website have an ingredient list?

If so, take a look at it. The easiest way to know if something is clean is if it lists its ingredients on the website.

This can be very helpful when shopping online.

But remember, just because something lists the ingredients doesn’t mean that it’s clean. So dig a little deeper!

Does the company make its certifications clear?

If they’re using natural ingredients and making them in facilities that are NSF (Natural Seal) approved, they’ll likely tell you this information as well.

Which clean beauty brands are worth trying?

Clean beauty is a term used to describe beauty products and ingredients that are free of chemicals and harsh ingredients.

Trying out clean beauty brands is a great way to support your health, the environment and break free from harmful habits.

So you want to do this but don’t know where to start?

Here are the top 10 best clean beauty brands that you’ll love!

1. LUSH Cosmetics

Lush Cosmetics is a popular British cosmetics brand that makes handmade products with fresh ingredients.

They use fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and essential oils in their products.

Their signature product is the soap!

You can also find scrubs, shampoos, conditioners, and more in Lush’s store.

Other notable products include the solid shampoo bars and the Fizz Bar bubble bath.

All of their products are 100% vegetarian and 95% vegan!

2. Trilogy Skin Care

Trilogy Skin Care is another brand that uses natural ingredients in its products without any chemicals or preservatives added to them.

They use high-quality plant-based oils like olive oil and coconut oil in their products for an extra moisturizing effect.

The brand offers soaps, lotions, body washes, facial cleansers, masks, and more!

3. Beautycounter

Beautycounter was founded in 2011 by Gregg Renfrew, who has a law degree from Harvard and an MBA from Wharton.

The company carries more than 1,300 products with more than 3,000 ingredients listed on its site for consumers to research so that they can be informed about the products they use daily.

The company also has a political advocacy arm called the Clean Beauty Institute that advocates for state and federal anti-animal testing legislation.

4. Alba Botanica

Alba Botanica has been around since 1978 when it started as a family-owned business in Hawaii with the goal of bringing natural skincare products to the market.

Their skincare line includes moisturizers, cleansers, and masks made with natural ingredients like plant extracts and essential oils.

5. Tarte

Tarte is one of my favorite clean beauty brands because they have a wide range of products, including skincare and makeup.

Everything I’ve tried from this brand has been high in quality and performance.

Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation is my current foundation go-to — it gives me full coverage without looking cakey or feeling heavy on my skin.

6. The Honest Company

The Honest Company was one of the first companies to make natural baby products (and they’re still killing it with their Baby Bundle boxes), but they also have an extensive selection of personal care and household cleaning items.

Final Thoughts

Clean Beauty Brands are focused on using better ingredients and using fewer of them.

There are no parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic dyes, or fragrances.

They are cruelty-free and contain at least 70% organic ingredients. They also do not contain silicones.
