If you’ve been following the clean beauty movement you already know that there are quite a few new brands popping up.
I’m sure you’ve wondered whether you should switch to clean beauty, too!
Should you switch to clean beauty?
If you’re looking for cleaner options, you should try out clean beauty products. By doing so, you can rest assured that you’re not putting anything toxic on your skin and in your body.
With so many eco-friendly options now available at the treatment level, you can have beautiful skin while helping the environment at the same time.
Why you should switch to clean beauty
I recently made the change to clean beauty, and it’s one of the best choices I’ve ever made.
Going clean is not only a great way to support your health, but it can save you money and time!
Here are 10 reasons why you should make the switch to clean beauty in 2022:
1. It’s safer
Clean beauty products don’t contain harmful chemicals that can cause cancer, birth defects, endocrine disruption, or allergies.
2. Better for you
The skin is the largest organ of your body. Why would you want to slather it with chemicals that can enter your bloodstream?
Clean cosmetics don’t contain artificial colors or synthetic fragrances that can cause irritation or allergic reactions.
3. It’s better for the planet
Clean beauty products are better for the planet because they don’t harm water systems or contribute to climate change by using non-renewable resources like fossil fuels.
4. Flexibility
With the growing demand for clean cosmetics, the industry is expanding rapidly.
You’ll have more options than you ever dreamed possible.
At the same time, manufacturers are listening to consumer demands for more transparency and accountability in the products they purchase, so there are more options than ever before for personalizing your routine based on your needs and preferences.
5. Unique results
The products I’ve tried so far are much gentler on my skin than many of the mainstream brands I used previously.
Most brands I’ve tried so far are also fairly natural — if you’re looking for something specific like acne care or anti-aging, chances are you’ll find something to fit your needs within the clean beauty market.
6. Cost savings
By cutting out all those fancy packaging designs and all those middlemen, I’m saving quite a bit of money on my beauty products.
I’ve also found some great deals on discontinued lines.
7. Clean beauty helps you live better
A big part of living better is knowing what you’re putting into your body.
Clean beauty products don’t have any harmful chemicals or additives so you can be confident that they won’t cause damage to your body.
8. Clean beauty helps you feel better
Clean beauty products can make a big difference in how you feel! We’ve all experienced it before when we try a product that doesn’t seem to agree with us.
It might make us break out, leave our skin feeling dry or oily, or even give us a headache!
When you choose clean beauty products, you won’t have these issues because they’re made from simple ingredients that can benefit your skin without any harmful side effects.
How to switch to clean beauty safely
Switching to clean beauty can be daunting and confusing.
I get it. With so many brands, ingredients, and claims out there, it’s hard to know where to start.
Here are 10 steps on how to switch over safely:
Step 1. Educate yourself
The internet is full of great resources for learning about clean beauty but don’t just read about the products you want to use—read about the ingredients you’re trying to avoid too!
This will help you understand the chemicals and toxins that you’re trying to avoid and what reactions they might cause in your body.
Step 2. Find a reparative skincare routine
Your skin is going through a lot of changes as it detoxes from conventional products so it’s important to be gentle but consistent with your new routine until your skin settles down.
Step 3. Start with a gentle cleanser
Start with a gentle cleanser as your first step at night because it will be easier for your skin to tolerate than an exfoliant and because most of us have good routines already in place in the morning (including SPF), and this way you won’t have to worry about contamination during the day.
Step 4. Use the same amount of product that you used with traditional beauty products
The most common mistake I see with my clients’ cleansers and moisturizers is using too much or using it too often.
If you use half as much as you used before and only twice a day, your skin will have time to adjust and won’t get as tight or dry.
Step 5 Treat your skin before you use a new product
If you’re going to be using something unfamiliar on your skin, try it out with a patch test.
Apply a small amount of the product to a small patch of skin, like the inside of your wrist, for about 24 hours. “You’ll know immediately if there’s an allergic reaction,” says Dr. Lipner.
Final Thoughts
Clean beauty is a great trend to be a part of, and we encourage you to consider switching over if you haven’t already.
