In this post I want to share with you a way to disinfect Vaseline for skin use.

This is something I learned from my mother who uses Vaseline as a moisturizer.

She has an oily skin type, prone to pimples and breakouts and since her early teens she has been using Vaseline as an alternative to much harsher cosmetic products sold in the market today.

How to Disinfect Vaseline for Skin Use

Petroleum jelly is a great moisturizer, but it can also trap dirt and bacteria in your pores. If you use it on your face, wash it off at night before bed.

Wash your hands with soap and water before handling petroleum jelly so you don’t contaminate it.

Here are the steps on how to disinfect petroleum jelly:

Step 1

Gather the materials needed to disinfect the product. Clean cloth, alcohol and a pack of cotton buds are required for this purpose.

Step 2

Use a piece of clean cloth to wipe off any dirt, dust or debris from the surface of the jar before you begin with the disinfecting process. This step is very important in order to ensure that you obtain desired results.

Step 3

Take some amount of alcohol on a cotton bud and rub it gently across the surface of the glass jar. Do not apply too much pressure while doing so as it may cause breakage.

Step 4

Wait for some time till the alcohol evaporates completely from the surface of your glass container.

You need to make sure that there are no traces of this chemical left behind on the surface. This will help in preventing its vapors from mixing with the Vaseline that you store inside the container.

Step 5

Repeat steps 3 and 4 multiple times in order to ensure thorough cleaning of your product.

It is recommended to do this at least twice before using your product again as it will help in removing any bacteria or fungi which might have infected it due to improper storage conditions.

Step 6

Store your cleaned Vaseline properly in an air tight container so as to prevent further contamination.

Benefits of Disinfecting Vaseline for Your Skin

Here are some benefits of disinfecting Vaseline for your skin:

1) Cleaning your hands

Many people use antibacterial soap to clean their hands. But it can lead to dry skin and irritation.

Disinfected Vaseline is a better option because it can also be used as an antibacterial hand cleaner. You will not feel any itching after cleaning your hands with Vaseline.

2) Treatment of burns caused by sunburn

If you get burnt by the sun, then applying disinfected Vaseline on your skin will relieve pain and burning sensation.

Its anti-inflammatory properties are very effective in treating this problem.

3) Treatment of dark circles around the eyes

Dark circles around the eyes are one of the most common problems for children and adults alike.

To remove these black circles, simply apply some disinfected Vaseline to them every day before going to bed at night. The results will be visible within a few days!

4) Make your eyelashes grow faster and thicker

If you want to make your eyelashes grow faster and thicker but don’t want to spend too much money on expensive cosmetics, we have something just for you – apply a small amount of disinfected Vaseline on your eyelashes.

Final Thoughts

If your Vaseline container or jar is making you want to puke because of its funky smell, then it’s time you clean your jars.

By following these steps, you can disinfect Vaseline for future skin use and remove the odor from your hands.
