  • Whisk or spatula

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp zinc oxide powder
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • ¼ cup shea butter
  • ¼ cup almond oil or avocado oil
  • ¼ cup beeswax pellets
  • 10-15 drops essential oils (optional, for fragrance)

Instructions

  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the zinc oxide powder, coconut oil, shea butter, almond oil or avocado oil, and beeswax pellets.
  • Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  • If using, add in the essential oils and mix again.
  • Transfer the mixture to a jar or container and let it cool and solidify for at least 2 hours.

Notes

  • You can adjust the proportions of the ingredients to your preference. Just be sure to use at least 2 tablespoons of zinc oxide for adequate sun protection.
  • You can also add in other natural ingredients like carrot seed oil or red raspberry seed oil, which have natural SPF properties.
  • This sunscreen has a shelf life of about 6 months.

How to Use:

  1. Apply the sunscreen to your skin 15-30 minutes before sun exposure.
  2. Reapply every 2 hours or after swimming or sweating.
  3. Use enough to fully coat your skin, paying extra attention to exposed areas like the face, ears, and neck.
  4. Remember to also protect your lips with a lip balm or chapstick with SPF.
  5. Follow up with a moisturizer if needed, as this sunscreen may be slightly drying to some skin types.
