Although it might not be the most popular brand in the world, Maybelline is one of the top cosmetic brands in the world, with products sold all over the globe.
You’ve probably used one or two of their products before, but did you know that they’re an eco-friendly company?
I was surprised to find out how eco-friendly they were.
Is Maybelline Eco Friendly?
When it comes to makeup, Maybelline offers a variety of eco-friendly products. Not only are the products themselves environmentally friendly, but the company is incredibly conscious about its packaging as well.
To begin with, Maybelline makes sure that all of its cardboard cases are made from recycled materials.
The plastic used in the tubes and packaging is also recyclable and has been designed to be much more lightweight than the cases used by other companies.
Furthermore, Maybelline even has a recycling program for used mascara wands called “Clean Makeup for Water” run by another company called TerraCycle.
In this program, anyone can send in their empty mascara tubes and wands when they’re done using them and TerraCycle recycles them into small pieces of plastic which can then be used to make items such as benches or flower pots.
As far as cruelty-free goes, you’ll be happy to know that Maybelline does not test its products on animals at any stage in development or production.
Their parent company L’Oreal has received awards for this cruelty-free testing process and continues to have a “no animal testing” policy in place today.
How Eco-Friendly are Maybelline Products?
Maybelline products are not 100% recyclable.
However, they do offer an empty bottle recycling program in which they will send you a prepaid postage box to put your empty Maybelline bottles into and they will recycle them for you.
They also claim that all their products are cruelty-free and do not contain any harmful ingredients or chemicals, but this is simply their word as a company.
People often wonder if the products used on their body can be harmful to the environment around them.
Unfortunately, this is generally difficult to answer because it depends heavily on the product and how you use it.
Does Maybelline Test on Animals?
Many of you are probably concerned about the ethics and treatment of animals.
It is a good thing that many companies have started to be more aware and considerate of the effects their products may have on animals.
It is great that animal rights groups are pushing the beauty industry to look at alternative ways to test products, but there are still some brands that test on animals.
As we mentioned before, Maybelline does not test their products or ingredients on animals, nor do they ask any third-party companies to conduct animal testing in order for them to sell their products in China.

Final Thoughts
While I was researching for this blog, I found that there is a lot of conflicting information about Maybelline and its dedication to the environment.
While their website does emphasize the importance of their eco-friendly products, it is sometimes hard to tell what company claims are merely marketing ploys and which are not.
However, looking at their better ingredients list on a close inspection of the ingredients reveals that many of these ingredients have a lower priority than in other comparable brands.
Maybelline has cut down on animal testing which is something we all love.
Despite the lack of enough evidence to label them as truly eco-friendly, they are still a great company, and most importantly, they’re located right here in the US!
